Junghwan and I went to Haiti from June 29th to July 3rd. During this trip, we met with music teachers and visited an orphanage to give instruments and supplies for our first summer music camp that will be held in August. Haiti has summer weather all year around, but during this time of the year, the heat wave started to spike up, and the weather was extremely hot.
1. Henry orphanage started to learn Violin!
These past two months, students from Henry orphanage learned how to play recorder and read music. During the visit, we gave violin to 8 students and viola to 4 students. They will start getting music lessons to learn how to play their new instruments.
2. Met with music teachers
We have a total of 6 teachers at our music school. They all love and care for our students, and at the meeting, we discussed what teachers will be going to prepare for the summer music camp in August.
3. Levu church students started to learn to play recorder!
35 students who attend Levu church recently started to learn to play recorder. Their eyes were full of excitement to learn about music. The Love and Hope Music School provides music education to 150 students in 8 orphanages in Haiti.
Haiti is going through hard time with protest, war between gangs, and kidnap, but children greeted us with excitement. When we saw their smiles no matter what the situation was, we learned a lot and filled our hearts with joy.
Thank you so much for your care and love for our young students in Haiti, and please send us lots of prayers and support for our ‘1st Love and Hope Music School summer camp’ in August 16-20!
Warm regards,
Bohyun Kim
